MediaTek introduces octa-core mobile processor

Taiwanese integrated circuit producer MediaTek has introduced the world to its eight-core processor, elevating the bar for the competition. MediaTek claimed that all the eight cores of its new octa-core processor run all together unlike existing eight-core solutions available in the market that activate only half of their cores at once. MediaTek didn't name the existing eight-core chips that activate only half of their cores at once, but it might be trying to belittle Samsung's Exynos Octa 5 chip that powers the South Korean electronics giant's Galaxy S4 smartphone. Samsung's Exynos 5 Octa chip, called the Exynos 5420, is based on ARM Mali - T628 MP6 cores. It is powered by four ARM Cortex-A15 cores at 1.8GHz and additional four Cortex-A7 cores at 1.3 GHz in a big-lit...

Android beats ios in tablet market share

The iPad is no longer the infallible tablet king that it used to be, even just a year ago. It wasn't long ago that the iPad was unquestionably the leader in the tablet market -- if not the entire market itself. But the  Android  ecosystem has proven that it could catch up, thanks especially to entries that have debuted in the last two years -- namely Amazon's  Kindle Fire  brand and Google's own Nexus 7  series built with mobile OEM partners. As further evidence of that, Strategy Analytics has published its second-quarter report for global tablet shipments. The market intelligence firm found that Android accounted for 67 percent of worldwide shipments in the second quarter of 2013. Both iOS and Windows declined to 28 percent and 4.5 percent of the global market share, respectively. The total number of shipments came close to approximately 51.7 mill...

Moscow Metro police chief Andrei Mokhov announced on Monday that these devices can track data on SIM cards up to five meters away.                                                   Reportedly, the tracking device will alert the police if it finds cell phones that are on authorities' lists of stolen phones. Closed-circuit televisions located in the subway stations will also be recording the people walking by as the device alerts poli...
